Cancelling a waste tracking software subscription
Cancelling Skiplog comes down to which plan you are on: the monthly plan is £129 a month, paid month by month, and cancel whenever you like is printed on the plan itself. The annual plan is £1,188 a year, so that one is a year at a time, and either way your transfer notes, quarterly returns and Defra receipt records stay readable and exportable while the account is open.
Cancelling, in plain terms
Two plans, two commitments. The monthly plan is £129 a month, paid month by month, and the words printed on it are cancel whenever you like. The annual plan is £1,188 a year, which works out at £99 a month. It asks for a year at a time in return for the lower rate. Both begin with a 60-day free trial. Both carry one site, unlimited waste transfer notes and unlimited carrier, broker and dealer registrations tracked, and both include the same receipt-of-waste rows laid out in the column order Defra's spreadsheet expects, for your yard to upload.
Billing runs through Stripe and lives on the Billing screen in the app. Skiplog holds your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference, never card details. People sign in with an email address and a password, so whoever holds the account email can reach that screen. The same screen holds Delete account, which cancels a live subscription first and then removes your account, your site and every record on it at once.
What the records do while you decide
Records are kept while the account is open, because waste records have to span quarters and inspections. A lapsed trial does not lock them away: they stay readable and exportable, so the register and the quarterly EA return CSVs can still be pulled off. A transfer note you remove comes off your register and your returns but stays on file for the two years the regulations require.
The Defra side is held the same way. Each receipts batch keeps its dates, its note count and who confirmed it, each reported note keeps the Defra reference it went in under, and a rejection keeps its date and reason, which is what sets the correction deadline Skiplog shows you. A correction to a note Defra had already accepted keeps the reference and the old and new value of what changed. That is the trail you would want in front of you if someone asks about a load months after the yard stopped using the software, so pull it down before you close anything. Skiplog is built to help you meet the waste tracking requirements, not to take over your own duty to hold your records.
Refunds and part-period credits are not set out in the published plan terms, so treat the annual plan as a decision for a season, and ask before you pick it if that point matters to you.

The order to work in
- Download the quarters and the receipt rows first
Pull down the quarterly EA return CSVs and the receipt-of-waste rows, with the Defra references on the loads you have already reported, while the account is open and the register is in front of you.
- Copy the registration renewal dates somewhere of your own
Expiry dates for carriers, brokers and dealers are tracked on the account, and the reminders and the calendar dates go with it. Write the renewal dates into whatever the yard uses before you stop.
- Remove anyone you added to the site
If the weighbridge and the office sign in as themselves, take them off on the site screen, so a yard's records are never deleted out from under someone still signed in.
- Stop the plan on the Billing screen
The plan you started is the thing you cancel, on the same screen the two plans live on. Billing runs through Stripe, so the card sits with Stripe, not with Skiplog.
- Use Delete account only when you mean it
It cancels a live subscription first, then removes the account, the site and every record on it at once. Skiplog does not state a backup retention schedule after deletion, so the downloads come first.
Questions
Can I cancel a Skiplog subscription at any time?
On the monthly plan, yes. It is £129 a month, paid month by month, and cancel whenever you like is part of the plan itself. The annual plan is £1,188 a year, so that one is a year at a time, and the trade for the year is the lower rate of £99 a month. Both plans start with a 60-day free trial, which gives you two months of your own loads before either commitment begins. If the shorter commitment matters to you more than the lower rate, the monthly plan is the one to start on.
Where is cancelling handled?
On the Billing screen in the app, next to the plans themselves. Payment runs through Stripe, and Skiplog stores only your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference, never card details. People sign in with an email address and a password, so whoever holds the account email can reach that screen. Delete account sits on the same screen and cancels a live subscription first, then removes the account, the site and every record on it.
What am I committed to if I stop part way through a month or a year?
On the monthly plan, the month you are in. It is billed every month at £129 and says cancel whenever you like. On the annual plan the £1,188 is billed once a year, so the commitment you are making is the year. Refunds and part-period credits are not set out in Skiplog's published plan terms, so treat the annual plan as a decision for a season and ask before you pick it if that point matters to you. The pricing page in this section carries both plans in full.
What happens to my transfer notes and quarterly returns if I cancel?
Records are kept while the account is open, because waste records have to span quarters and inspections. A lapsed trial does not lock them away: they stay readable and exportable, so the register and the quarterly return CSVs can still be pulled off. A transfer note you remove comes off your register and your returns but stays on file for the two years the regulations require. Generated returns are held with their totals too, so a return you have already sent the EA can be downloaded again unchanged. There is a fuller page in this section on what happens to your records if the trial lapses or you cancel.
What about the loads I have already reported to Defra?
Those are held on the account as well, and they are worth taking with you. Each receipts batch keeps its dates, its note count and who confirmed it, each reported note keeps the Defra reference it was accepted under, and a rejection keeps the date and reason from the notice. Corrections to a note Defra had already taken keep the reference plus the old and new value of what changed. Export the receipt rows and the references before you close the account, because reporting a load into Defra's service is your duty, not the software's, and you may be asked about it long after the subscription has gone.
Does cancelling during the 60-day free trial cost anything?
The trial is 60 days on both plans. If you have not picked a plan yet, no paid subscription is running, so there is nothing to stop and nothing to pay. If you did start a plan during the trial, that plan is the thing you cancel, on the Billing screen. Sixty days is long enough that a quarter end will usually fall inside it, so a quarterly EA return can often be generated and downloaded before any plan starts. The trial page in this section sets out what the trial includes.
Can I move from annual to monthly instead of cancelling?
Plan changes are not something this page can set out, so take it up through the Billing screen in the app, where both plans live. What is clear is that the two plans are the same product: the same digital transfer notes with waste type, EWC code, weight, carrier and destination, the same offline capture with a visible sync status on every note, the same quarterly EA return CSV in your configured column layout, the same receipt-of-waste rows ready for Defra's spreadsheet, the same carrier, broker and dealer registration tracking with expiry reminders and the dates in your own calendar, and the same site dashboard with tonnage by waste type. The only differences are the price and the billing interval. Each plan covers one site either way.
What is the difference between cancelling and deleting the account?
Cancelling stops the plan. Delete account, on the same Billing screen, cancels a live subscription first and then removes your account, your site and every record on it at once, which is the step with no way back. If you have added other people to your site, remove them on the site screen first, so a yard's records are never deleted out from under someone still signed into them. Download the notes, the returns and the receipt rows the EA or Defra may still ask you for before you press it. On the payment side, Stripe holds the card, card details never touch Skiplog, and the storage page in this section lists everything Skiplog itself keeps.
